This year, thanks to the local Education Foundation Grant, I was able to purchase 558 books to use for Literature Circles.  Lit Circles are my favorite way to teach reading.  Students practice reading skills while reading high interest novels in a small group.  I usually have 4-6 groups in a class and each group will be reading a different book.  Lit Circles are like a book club for kids, and they make reading a social activity which is what appeals to today’s youth.
This year I bought 27 different novels!  That’s a lot of reading.  And I hope that with a follow-up grant next year, I can add to this number.
